Baseball and Softball 2021
We had a "ball" this summer quite literally. Bronson, Charlotte, and for the first time Whitlee enjoyed their summer days full of baseball/ softball practice and spending their summer nights on the diamond.
Bronson had a chance to try out pitching this year, as his particular league had a rule that a 9-year old must pitch the first inning, as opposed to the 10-year olds on his team. He took it serious and practiced hard and after some struggle improved quite a bit by the end of the season.
Charlotte is getting old enough that quite a bit of strategy is now starting to enter the game as she learns to aim her hits, make plays, and steal bases. The girls had to slide into home base this year or they would be called out, and she got quite good at it, thought it was a bit intimidating at first!
And Whitlee had her first taste of softball and loved it. She got so much better at hitting this year and was able to get a hit in about every game. The girls this age started pitching to each other this year and are just learning about how to get outs, and it makes for some adorable watching.
Charlotte's team ended up in the finals against a rival team where there was a lot of friction! I have never in all of the sporting events I have ever attended for my children seen so much yelling and screaming at the umps, player, and other coaches. This final had to be won in best 2 of 3, and extra officials and back up had to be called in for crowd control. Coaches and parents were nearly thrown out of the game. Charlotte's team won the first game and it came extremely close in the second game, but they were able to pull out a miraculous win. The girls and their sweet coaches were so excited!
Win or lose I love watching my kids play, grow, improve and learn the game. And I love long summer nights under the lights.
