The Bug Turns 1

How fast a year flies by!  Whitlee had her first birthday and I can hardly believe how fast that year went.  I decided that she needed a ladybug cake as she is our little Whitlee Bug.
I had ordered her a special candle to celebrate her "April Fool's" birthday, but it didn't get here in time, so I guess it will have to wait until next year.

To celebrate the Bug's birthday, we invited all of the family on the Martineau side for a barbecue, as we had three birthdays to celebrate on that side.

We couldn't have asked for better weather.  It was so warm and calm and beautiful and the food was wonderful.  There couldn't have been a better way to celebrate the birthday girl.

Birthday kisses from the birthday girls.

Whitlee thought the cake was great.
And she really enjoyed opening presents too.

She was so excited to get a sippy cup, it was adorable.

The barbecue was perfect and Whitlee had a wonderful birthday celebration.  The only problem was that Daddy couldn't be there to celebrate as he had been called away on a work assignment.  So we had another wonderful party on Whitlee's actual birthday with Daddy:

More Sippy Cups!

She loved her presents from her thoughtful brothers and sisters, which included a bath fish toy, a crown, a sparkle wand, an outfit, and a baby baseball mitt.  Mom and Dad got her a small sandbox for outside and a bank account.

And Whitlee didn't complain when we had even more cupcakes:

She was very curious about the fire and wanted to touch it.

The cupcakes were a hit!

Happy Birthday Whitlee Bug!

Ten Things You Should Know About Whitlee:
1.  She is a definite Mommy's girl.  She yells at anyone who tries to hold her besides mom.  If Daddy so much as tells her hello, she buries her face into Mom's neck, just to let Dad know where he stands.
2.  She is very good at saying "Hi!" and loves to tell everyone "Hi!" when she wakes up or sees them.  She can also say Mama, Dada, Tanner, Ian, and Uh Oh!.  We are working on getting her to say her other siblings names.
3.  She has no desire to walk.  Every time I try to offer her my fingers to walk her, she lifts up her feet and sits plop! right down on her bum.  She has been stubborn about doing tricks on cue (such as rolling, crawling, pulling up, etc.) and only wants to do things in her own timing.
4.  She is a good sleeper and sleeps in longer than any of my other kids have ever slept in.  Every morning she can sleep in until 10 a.m.!
5. Some of her favorite foods are meatballs, chicken nuggets, and ice cream.
6. She loves music and loves to dance when she hears music come on.  She also hums.  Her favorite song is Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam.  She can hum it and hums it for us when she wants us to sing it.  When we do sing it, she loves to bounce and giggle.
7.  She has so much hair, but hates having it done.  She refuses to leave in headbands or any hair bows.  On any days mom tries to do her hair, she will eventually rip it out, making her hair look ridiculous.
8.  She loves to play with stuffed animals and has some in her crib.  Sometimes I hear her playing at 3 a.m.  There is a light switch near her bed and she can flip it on.  She also wakes up very happy in the morning and can play with her animals in her crib for long amounts of time before mom comes in and gets her.
9.  She is getting very curious and loves to crawl around and explore the house.  Her favorite thing to explore right now is the bathroom and she loves to unroll the toilet paper rolls and splash in the toilet.
10.  She adores her siblings and loves to crawl on them and all over them, teasing them, getting their ears, and playing with them.  If she can hear them playing downstairs, she will crawl to the top of the stairs, pull herself up on the railing and yell downstairs for them.  She is happy to have such a big family and you can tell that she feels loved.

We are so happy to have Whitlee as part of our family.  Happy Birthday Whitlee May!
