The Wicked Wombats
Ian gave up organized school basketball after his freshman year and never looked back with any regret. He enjoyed church basketball and the freedom and stress-free environment where he could just play for the pure joy and love of the sport. However, this year, for his senior year, most of the boys he had grown up playing school ball with finally had it with the school program and quit as well. They decided to organize themselves into a rec league and created the Wicked Wombats. They designed these amazing flaming uniforms and began practicing. What we didn't know when Ian signed up is how FAMOUS the Wicked Wombats would become. Thanks to teammate Johnny Walker and his social media skills, these Wombats reached star status.
The Wombats did not have amazing success, winning less than half of their games, but their infamy encouraged teams to challenge them. The Snake River underclassmen challenged them to play for a fundraiser.
And at the end of the school year, the faculty also challenged the Wombats to a fundraising charity game. In total the Wombats brought in over $1,000 in ticket sales, which was donated to the Senior Class Graduation Party.
It was a tight game, but in the end the Wombats prevailed and won the game. The best part of the game was when Ian got really hot on his shooting and the entire student body started chanting MVP every time he got the ball. Never in all of his years of school ball was he ever built up and cheered on by the student body.
