Charlotte's Freshman Basketball Season

What a crazy ride Charlotte's Freshman year of basketball became.  Previous to this year, the Snake River girls had won the State Basketball tournament two years in a row and had a fantastic program.  We were excited for Charlotte to start high school and join in.  During Summer ball, the head coach announced that he would no longer be coaching, and along with that announcement, SO many girls decided to drop basketball.  In fact, every junior and senior girl quit.  With the sophomores and freshmen that were left, we didn't even have enough to make a C-Team.  These amazing 9th and 10th grade girls had to step up and fill a Varsity and JV team, and they were definitely outmatched.  We knew it would be a difficult season going in.

Charlotte had the opportunity to play on the JV team, got to see lots of playing time, and had to work her butt off to keep up with the older girls on the other teams.

They didn't win a single game (except one tournament game), and neither did the Varsity team.  But through that adversity, Charlotte grew and learned so much.  We had the coaches of both JV and Varsity tell us how impressed they were with how far Charlotte came in one difficult season.  When it came time for districts, they bumped her up to Varsity, and she was able to earn her Varsity letter, which was very exciting to her.

When the season first started, Charlotte had seriously considered giving up basketball and focusing solely on volleyball.  She got talked into sticking it out by the coaches.  She knew it would be difficult and didn't think she would like it, but by the end of the season, she really grew to love basketball.  She loved the thrill of growing and improving, even though they didn't have very much success in their season.  I am so proud of her for her positive mindset and can't wait to watch her as she continues the rest of her basketball career as a varsity player!
