Extreme Makeover Room Re-Dos
For Christmas this year, Zac and I had the genius idea that rather than give our teenagers the electronics that they were asking for, we would give them materials to remodel their vanilla flavored bedrooms. And of course, instead of just a simple new coat of paint, we went all out adding pine "ship lap" to every wall of their bedrooms. It looks amazing and the twins are as happy as could be, but after three days of solid labor and twice the amount of money we would have spent on i-phones, I started to wonder about our wisdom!
Tanner has always wanted a "cabin themed" room, so this is the conceptual that Zac came up with for him.
Through the process, Ian and Tanner worked together to learn how to measure, cut, and fit the pine boards. They became experts and I think really enjoyed the construction project. For about the cost of a few Lego kits, they learned real construction and can keep the results of their labor forever!
The finished product:
Ashlyn's Room: Ashlyn had been dying for a little bit of color and had been asking for some light blue walls for quite some time. She had an idea about what kind of bedding she wanted and wanted some sort of cool accent wall. This is what dad came up with.
The girls had a lot of fun painting while the boys were busy cutting the pine for both rooms. We decided to white wash Ashlyn's pine to match her color scheme. And she loved how it turned out.
They sure love their rooms! But next year, I think we'll just get them the iphones!
