Tanner Had an Accident

Tanner started a new job this summer doing landscape curbing and he's awesome at it.  He had gotten into a good routine keeping that cement mixer running but knew that if big clumps jammed the machine it would take some annoying extra time to shut the machine off, unclog it, and get going again, so when he saw a lump forming without much forethought he stuck his hand in the machine and had himself a little accident.  I will never forget how I almost threw up when his boss' wife called me and said that I needed to come right away, that they thought Tanner's hand was likely broken or at the very least needed stitches.  Zac threw me in the car and drove like a madman.  I expected to find my boy in tremendous pain and maybe even tears.  What I found was a mildly annoyed teenager.  The pain didn't see to be bothering him and he couldn't figure out why his dad was driving crazy at 90 miles an hour to get him to the emergency room.  I couldn't believe how tough he was!  When we finally got to Urgent Care, they ran his hand under the sink for 5 or so minutes to clean it off, then sent him for an X-Ray... which showed that everything was perfectly fine, no broken bones.  When the doctor came to check him out, he said there wasn't even anything to stitch, since he had peeled so much skin.  We were so surprised by the lack of blood, which we were told later by another doctor that it is possible the chemical in the cement burned and cauterized the skin keeping it from bleeding.  So crazy!  We went home with some gauze wrap and an appointment to follow up to check for tendon damage, which turned out not to be an issue either.  Tanner was back to work two weeks later.

There really is no explanation other than this kid is watched over by guardian angels.  And someday this boy is going to need those hands in good working order to do some amazing things.  We are so glad that we are so watched over!
