Who Cries Over a Worm?

So, Ashlyn is very into bugs right now. Everytime Zac buys me a new set of Tupperware, they magically disappear within days. I then find them all around the house and outside full of dirt, rocks, sticks, grass, weeds, and water. They are bug houses. Ashlyn has dreamed all Winter of catching a ladybug. She made the most special habitat with every comfort a ladybug could ever want, and even decorated the exterior with pictures and words that she had drawn.

Sunday, we were outside when Zac found a worm, thinking he would gross Ashlyn out, he threw it in her general direction. Did she scream? Did she run? No, she tenderly picked up the worm and began making it a special home in his new tupperware habitat. She figured he would need mud and lots of it, so she filled this large size tupperware to the top with mud. Then when it was time to go inside, of course, worm came with her. When mom said, "No worms in the house!", there was a crying fit, which mom proceeded to video tape... it was pretty good, but in the end mom won and the worm stayed outside.

The next day, worm wasn't looking so good, his guts were kind of oozing, and he had to be buried in a final resting place next to a caterpillar that didn't last 2 hours and a lady bug that didn't last more than 10 minutes.

Maybe she will study insects when she grows up?

oh, her and grace could be such good friends... grace loves all things bugs too! i frequently have to tell her which bugs are potentially dangerous and which ones she can pick up and keep.
