Whitlee's Wax Museum

Every year the fourth graders do a Wax Museum project, where they have to select a historical figure that has made a contribution to mankind who has passed away.  I was surprised a little bit at the hard time we were having brainstorming a lot of women historical figures.  But when I told Whitlee about Hedy Lamarr, she was fascinated and wanted to learn more about her.  Hedy Lamarr was a brilliant woman who helped to invent frequency hopping which led to WIFI and Bluetooth technology and also helped encrypt messages for the military.  She also just so happened to be considered "The Most Beautiful Woman in the World" as well as a very successful actress and movie producer, which was almost unheard of for women of that time!  She had a wild life full of good and bad choices... in other words she was very human.  Both Whitlee and I loved learning about her.

Whitlee had to dress like Hedy for the day of the Wax Museum.  Then all of the parents came and pushed the buttons for the wax statues and they would stand and tell you about the person they studied.

Whitlee actually made a pretty convincing Hedy Lamarr!
