A Quick Christmas Getaway to SLC

The week before Christmas, I got an e-mail from the BYU Alumni association letting me know that tickets to the BYU vs. ISU (Idaho State University) basketball game were going for just $3 a piece, no other fees or strings attached.  That is the CHEAPEST I have ever seen a ticket go for at the Marriott Center.  It costs us more to go to our local high school basketball games.  The timing perfectly coincided with the kids being out of school for Christmas break and Zac happened to be landing in Salt Lake the day of the game after coming back from a business trip, so in a very spur of the moment decision, we decided to head to Provo.  And it really was so much fun!!

When we stopped to pick up our dad in Salt Lake, we walked the mall.  We remembered that Ashlyn got her ears pierced at the Claire's in City Creek mall when she was almost 8, which has been our deal with the girls (they have to be 8... or almost 8 to get their ears pierced).  Charlotte reminded us that she was very close to being 8, and I realized she was right!  So into the piercing chair she went.

She was a little nervous as the girl piercing her ears looked like she had gotten into a fight with the piercing gun and lost... she had piercings and tattoos everywhere!  I just figured she probably had lots of experience and would be an expert piercer.

The BYU game was super fun!  Charlotte, Bronson, Whitlee, and I had never been to a BYU basketball game.  In addition to watching the game, the entertainment is stellar.  The cheerleaders did stunts, the dance team danced, their were competitions... a guy won $9,000 by sinking a shot from half court.  And our favorite, Cosmo the Cougar, did some pretty amazing stunt dunks.

BYU crushed ISU... which we had to root for a little, as many of those boys are our good old Idaho neighbors.

We were trying to get on the selfie cam on the big screen at the Marriott.  We got our pictures in too late and didn't get up there.  I will be faster next time!

And best of all we ate lots and lots of cougar tails, snacks, and BYU creamery ice cream!

The next day we decided to take the kids to see the lights on temple square as we haven't done that with them since the twins were 2.  They didn't remember.  The lights at temple square are pure magic!

Even though it wasn't a long trip by any means.  It really was very memorable.  We love being together as a family going on adventures.
