Bronson Turns 3

Our little Bronco Buster turned 3 recently and it was quite the affair.

Weeks in advance I began asking him what type of cake he wanted for his birthday, to which he replied over the course of several weeks: A skidsteer cake, an excavator cake, a car cake, a monkey cake, a daddy cake, a mommy cake, and an airplane cake.  I know there were a bunch more that I am missing, but some of them were so up-in-the-night weird that I flat out can't recall what they were.  He spent many late nights in bed with mom and dad looking up cake ideas on the Internet.

Finally, one night we landed on this airplane idea which appealed to him because he had just watched Planes: Fire and Rescue, so we jumped on it and locked him in to this idea.

We also ordered some small airplane toys and white cotton candy as cupcake toppers.  The boys thought this was a great idea and dibbsed their favorite ones while we made the cupcakes.

Through the whole process of decorating the cake, Bronson kept saying, "Holy Moly!  I love it Mom!"  or "Mom you are doing a really great job!"  Can I just tell you I love the age of 3.

Little Buster is becoming quite the model and has perfected many different modeling poses:

We were able to take the cake and cupcakes to Zac's brother's house where lots of cupcake eating cousins live.  Which was great because more than anything Bronson told me that he just wanted to share some cupcakes with his cousins for his birthday.

What did he wish for?  Everytime I ask him what he wished for, he tells me, "Candles"... I don't think he quite gets that concept just yet.

All of his siblings saved up their hard earned cash and bought him some really great gifts for his birthday.  He got bubbles and a bubble blower, a camp chair, a football, some sand toys for the sandbox, a helicopter ball, and an excavator for the sandbox.   He had a really great day.

Ten Things We Love about Bronson

1.  He loves music.  He has to have music going all of the time in his room.  If there is no music playing then he is singing.  His favorite music is the Primary Children songs, especially Popcorn Popping and the Apricot Tree and Sunbeam.  He loves to snuggle up in mom and dad's bed with dad's phone listening to Primary songs.

2.  He is an Energizer Bunny.  He wants so badly to be big and give up naps during the day, but he doesn't always make it and he often crashes for a late nap around 4 or 5 p.m.  Then when it is time for bed, he is so wound up that Mom and Dad have no choice but to put him in bed with them and let him jump on their heads until midnight.  We are really getting to know him and love singing and reading stories and just talking with him during these late night sessions.

3.  He is very into construction machinery right now.  If we find the construction equipment classifieds at a gas station, he feels like he has won the lottery.  When I wash him in the bath, he likes to pretend that he is a skidsteer getting a wash.

4.  His favorite food in the world is Mac 'n Cheese and he could probably take down a whole box by himself.

5.  He loves to play Legos and can build things all by himself and loves to come and show me.

6.  He adores his baby sister and always wants to help with her care.  He loves to tuck her in for naps, feed her food and bottles, and play with and babysit her. He also loves his big siblings and tries very hard to keep up with them.  He is going to be quite an athlete because he is already getting himself in the middle of ball games and running and jumping and doing everything the big kids do.

7.  He is doing preschool with Charlotte and is learning so much this year.  He can almost count to 20 all by himself.  He loves it when it is preschool day and will run down and set up everything I need for lessons.  He knows the routine with preschool and loves to help with every aspect of it.  He also loves library preschool and story time and is becoming a very good listener.

8.  He loves to bake with mom.  If he ever suspects I might be making something, he comes running wanting to help add ingredients and pushing the buttons on the mixer.

9.  He is a BUTTON PUSHER.  This kid's most favorite thing in the whole wide world is finding anything with a button and pushing them all to see what happens.  I will admit, this sometimes makes me quite crazy.

10.  He is very much a DADDY's boy!?!  He always prefers dad to mom if dad is home.  He has been known to cry for his dad when Zac has to go out of town and also sit on his dad's feet and hold his legs to try to keep him from leaving.  He unabashedly tells me that he is DAD'S buddy and not mine.  But I can always trick some hugs and kisses from him by pretending to cry.  But those are the only hugs and kisses I get.  When I usually tuck him in to bed, he always tells me, "No Kisses, Handshakes instead."

What a kid!
