First Grade Wisdom

We are getting down to the last DAYS of school this year.  I can't believe how fast it is going, and I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to have my kids home for the summer.  Ian's first grade class has been having an alphabet countdown to the end of school.  Each day they have a fun activity planned based on the theme letter of the day.  Last week when Ian came up on "Q is for Quiz" day, we were a little worried that it might not be as fun of a day as some of the others.  However, it ended up being one of my personal favorites.  His teacher wrote down some common proverbs but left off the endings.  The first graders had to fill them in with how they thought the proverb would end.

Here are some words of wisdom to live by according to Ian...

It's always darkest before... night.

Never underestimate the power of... flower power.

You can lead a horse to water but... it can't drink.

Don't bite the hand that... has poison.

A miss is as good as a... dog.

You can't teach an old dog new... piano pieces.

If you lie down with dogs, you'll... get bit.

When in Rome do... Not Shoot!

The pen is mightier than the... Eraser.

It is no use crying... when there's no TV.

Those who live in a glass house should not... unchanged their clothes.

A penny saved is... a silver dollar.

The grass is always greener... when it's summer.

The early bird catches... a cold.

Children should be seen and not... play.

If at first you don't succeed... you'll die.

When the blind lead the blind... you'll fall down.

A bird in the hand... talks.
