Birthdayversary

The end of May is a magical time at our house, not only is it Ian's birthday, but Zac and I have the same birthday at the end of the month, over Memorial Day weekend.  We also have a wedding anniversary the following week and all of this is sandwiched between Mother's and Father's day.  This makes for some fun times at our house.  This year rather than guess what kind of gifts to give each other, we decided to take an impromptu family vacation.

We headed to SLC and had fun stopping by our old house, visiting with old neighors, and gazing in amazement at how our old trees have grown.

Next, we headed to the big city to check into the Little America hotel.  Our kids were wowed at the fanciness of it and couldn't wait to check out the outdoor/ indoor pool.  Ashlyn said, "I don't like it when hotels are so fancy, it feels like you have to be so quiet and good and careful not to break things." hmmm... maybe we ought to make our new house "really fancy".

Next up, the Living Planet Aquarium in Sandy.  It was totally amazing.  Here are some of the awesome fish we saw.

This was the sting ray pool where the kids could actually touch the sting rays.  They thought that was pretty awesome.  Our kids have always been so facinated by sea creatures that it was so fun to see them in amazement as they experienced sharks, sea turtles, eels, sea horses, and lots of other fun displays.

It was at this point in the trip that my camera battery died, and as we were so impromptu on this trip, I didn't think to bring a charger :(  So no more pictures.

But we did have a ball exploring the new City Creek mall in SLC next to temple square, exploring the kid's interactive Book of Mormon exhibit in the Church History museum, along with the other Temple visitor's centers.  We rode to the top of the Church office building, the tallest building in SLC, and looked out over the valley.  We rode Trax, swam in the hotel pool ALOT, ate the most delicious donuts hot out of the oven, and had a fun birthday surprise when Zac snuck out early on our birthday and came back with a cake!  The rest of our birthday was spent exploring Hogle Zoo, where the kids were in animal heaven.  Even baby Bronson had a birthday surprise for me and slept through the night for the first time ever at the hotel...which wasn't necessarily a great surprise as I am breast feeding, and was feeling so uncomfortably full that I didn't get much sleep all night... but I sure do wish he would do that again!

We had such a wonderful birthday and I couldn't share it with a better person.  I love you Zac, thank you so much for making our birthdays magical!

The birthday boy, whistling a tune for an appreciative fan.
Our poor daddy works so hard and then comes home and tries to get things done for the new house.  He truly is Superman!
