Harvest and Fair Time

We love where we live!  We are situated right on the edge of a farm.  The crops here are rotated between potatoes, sugar beets, and grain.  I love and hate the grain years.  I love watching that grain get tall and turn golden... I hate the neverending dust when they harvest.  But we love watching the big combines come and cut the grain.

We also love Harvest time because it brings Harvest Break, where our schools let out for 2 weeks, and all of the high school kids who are at least 15 and older help bring in the Harvests.  Ian worked hard and made a good chunk of change.  Charlotte would have loved to have worked but was too young, so instead she worked her buns off to get her driver's ed done.

She has also been fascinated about decorating cakes and she decided to be brave and enter one into the fair this year to be judged.  She wasn't thrilled about the theme, "Mardis Gras", but she did her best and made a pretty good-looking cake!

She ended up getting second place in her teen division and got lots of helpful hints from the judges for how to make it even better next year.

Whitlee also decided she wanted to enter the sugar cookie division.  She had to make four cookies and decorate each one differently but with a common theme.  She did plants.

And earned herself a 3rd place ribbon!

Charlotte had the fun opportunity to be in the EISF Parade this year with the Student Council.  This is the biggest parade we attend every year and the kids come home with buckets of candy.  Charlotte loved being in it this year.

And I love that Whitlee still loves to see the petting zoo and ride the ponies at the fair because truth be told, I love the petting zoo too!
We live in the best community and area.  We wouldn't trade it for anything.
