Ashlyn and Tanner's First Year of Track

Ashlyn and Tanner decided to try track for the first time this year and let's be honest, by "decided to try" I mean Zac and I had a 2 hour long Family Home Evening extolling the virtues of track and making them promise to try it at least once.  And I think they maybe kind of liked it... maybe.  They got to be with friends, miss school, hang out in the sunshine, and eat out at restaurants on the way home.  And they even got some running in and learned how to high jump.

Tanner tried the hurdles and he didn't finish last or trip over a hurdle, so mission accomplished and he did better than his mother when she was that age.

Ashlyn ran a medley.  She ran the 100 leg for her team.  And she didn't trip or finish last either.

She also tried the 100 m dash and the 4x100 Relay... so basically she likes short races.  At the District meet, her team finished 4th sadly just missing a medal.

Tanner bravely tried a distance run and ran the 800 m.  He finished somewhere in the middle most meets, but improved his own personal time every time he raced.  I think that is awesome.

His last event was a 4x400 relay.  And they did great and even got 2nd at Districts!

I am super mad that I didn't make the twinners take a picture together before they gave back their track jerseys, especially because it may have been a once in a lifetime picture as they will be entering high school next year with a world of Spring sports opening to them.  I'm not sure if they will pick track again, but it was sure fun watching them try something new and explore their talents!
