Ashlyn Gets the Call

For girls in our church, you can opt to serve a mission when you are 19 years old.  You can put in mission papers to get your call three months before you are eligible.  Ashlyn had been counting down to this day ever since Tanner left.  It has been so hard watching all of the boys her age as well as her friends that have Winter birthdays get their calls and leave her behind.  But FINALLY it was her turn and she convinced our stake president to turn in her papers on midnight the day they could go in.

Two weeks later she had a mission call.  She was still in college at the time, so she made a plan to drive home the day she got her call to open it with family and friends.  She was in such a hurry and so anxious to get home, she got a speeding ticket for going over 80 on the 70 mph highway!

Since she worked at two different soda shops and they are her favorite thing in the world, I made giant "soda shop" cookies to share with our family and friends, and we had a soda bar.

Ever since Ashlyn left home, Charlotte has become our new calligrapher/ artist. and she made this beautiful chalk masterpiece on the doorstep.

We had family and friends make guesses for her mission call both in the United States and foreign.

We live casted her reading her call on Facebook... and for the life of me I can't find that video now.  I am so sad, I loved watching her read that call and wish I could relive it!

Ashlyn will be serving in the Philippines Baguio mission Tagalog speaking and will start her training with home MTC on August 7th!  We are so excited for her and she is so ready to go!!
