We Totally Repped the Y

So BYU has this thing that they do where 50 days before their first football game, they hide fan boxes filled with BYU gear and other awesome prizes in all 50 states of the United States.  I found out about this last year after they had already done Idaho.  With a family full of BYU fans I made sure that we wouldn't miss it this year.  When the day for the Idaho drop arrived not knowing what time the box would be dropped, I got the kids up very early for swimming lessons and threw BYU shirts at everyone because you have to be in BYU apparel to claim a box.  We also made sure our dad was in BYU apparel just in case a box got dropped anywhere close to where he was working and he could get there before us.  From that point on we were all a wreck, having to check Facebook every 5 minutes to see if a picture had been posted of the box and where it was dropped.  Finally around noon a clue was posted online that said the boxes (there would be multiple boxes dropped in Idaho) would not be dropped until later in the evening, so we could relax a little... just a little... because we kept getting phone calls from Zac guessing where they might drop it and he finally couldn't take it any longer and he told us to pick him up at work at 5 p.m. sharp so that we could divide and conquer.  By this point we had also received a clue that one of the locations would be in Idaho Falls.  So we brainstormed the most prominent landmarks in Idaho Falls and I took off for the wooden Indian and Zac took half of the kids to the Greenbelt by the Idaho Falls Temple.  Apparently, we weren't the only ones in the KNOW for the BYU boxes, because the whole city was crawling with BYU super fans.  It was hysterical to see families cruising in their cars in their BYU gear.  We were all flashing each other the Y sign and I actually made pretty good friends with another BYU mom in the parking lot of the Indian who had come equipped with Rice Krispie treats and extra drinks, which she so graciously offered us... we made a pact that if the box arrived at the Indian that we would touch it together for a tie and split the prize.

Unfortunately, we still didn't know what time the box would be dropped so we ended up sitting for hours at the Indian glaring at any other BYU fans who dared drive through to scope out our territory.  After many hours of waiting and not being able to position himself in a good spot at the Greenbelt, Zac finally gave up his spot and met us at the Indian and it was about at this time that the first picture was uploaded... the St. Anthony sand dunes... there was no way we were going to make that one.  And soon after that the Idaho Falls location was finally released and it was at Snake River landing about 5 minutes away from where we were stationed.  At first, we said, forget it, because we knew that it was probably already more than covered and we wouldn't get there in time, but then 5-10 minutes passed and no one had still claimed it.  We jumped in our vehicles and ran over just in case.  Right when we pulled into the parking lot the post came through that the prize had been claimed and sure enough about 100 or more BYU fans were running all around the river.

By the end of it we were stressed out wrecks, but I think we made a memory that the kids won't soon forget... however next year, we may just save ourselves some sanity and gas money and buy some of our own BYU gear from the BYU bookstore!!
