Treasure Mountain Scout Camp by Tanner

On the night before Scout Camp my family decided last minute to surprise our troop by making some matching t-shirts that we could have to wear at Scout Camp.  We spent hours designing a logo, cutting out turtles and ironing them onto our shirts.  Our troop decided to have the turtles for a mascot because we are from Thomas and turtles are pretty cool.

After the shirts were done, my dad went through my packing list with me and made sure that I was ready to go for the week.

Dad drove up with me on the first day to help our troop get our camp set up and ready to go for the week.  It isn't his calling or anything, my dad was just really cool to volunteer his time so that there would be enough leaders at camp.  He went home Monday night but came back and stayed Thursday and Friday nights with us.

On the first day of scout camp everyone woke up at 6:30 or 7:00 in the morning made sure they were ready  and all headed over to the church. once we were there we put everything in the scout trailer and headed off to treasure mountain. Once we arrived we had to hike forever to camp while pulling big carts full of stuff. After hiking for a while the person who was helping us told us he didn't know where camp was. thankfully my dad found it. Then after 15 min. we had lunch which we had to pick up at the lodge. After lunch we spent about the next hour and 45 min. repeatedly taking things in carts to camp and back to the trailer. it was miserable. After that we had someone named Issac come to our camp and say that he was our camp buddy and he would come each morning to take us to the flag ceremony and he would each night just to hang out. This time he came to take us on a tour of camp with a lot of other camps. On the tour they told us we needed a totin chip we wanted to get it right away but we had to finish our tour first as soon as we did we rushed over to get our totin chip but we were missing two boys who had decided not to tell anyone that they were going to the trading post. once they were found it was our troops turn to get the totin chip we had to talk about safety and how to sharpen blades then we had to use an axe and a saw. you can see me doing that in the picture below.
after that we started merit badge then went and got some dinner and went  to a skit thing at Chief's Rock and then went to bed.

On the second day I think I made breakfast at 6:30 in the morning. after breakfast we went to the flag ceremony and then went to go get our swim check but as soon as I jumped the water it was so cold I could barely breath and I panicked so I had to redo the swim check but I passed. After that we went to go get merit badges one of the merit badges we were working on was woodworking. Then we ate lunch continued on merit badges util dinner after dinner it as time for Battle Of The Tetons. It is one of the most fun things to do at camp except I didn't go because we let the people in our troop that were oldest do it because it was their last day. it was fun watching though what they did was get in a aluminum canoe with bowels and shields and in a cramped spot the scooped up water and threw into other boats. they also tried blocking the water which was thrown in their boats. You couldn't bail or touch other people's boats though or else you were disqualified. Our troop took 3rd and got to go to the finals. after that we went back to camp and went to bed.

On the 3rd day we ate breakfast and went to the flag ceremony worked on some more merit badges this time we worked mostly on canoeing. We then went to lunch. Then we worked on merit badges again. After that we went to dinner and did something called Honor Trail which was a hike where you learned about  the scout law, slogan, motto, and oath. We then went to camp and sleep.
On the 4th day we woke up ate, went to the flag ceremony and went to work on merit badges I finished canoeing and emergency preparedness and almost finished with a lot of other things before and after lunch. .After we were done we ate dinner Then I did a little service project and went and did a thing on CPR. Then went to camp and went to sleep.

On the 5th day we woke up and ate then I went and finished all of the merit badges I was working on which totaled up to be 8 merit badges. Then I got half of kayaking done. Then went to lunch. After that it was all fun and games. we did a three way tug a war and then did Chief's Challenge which is a relay race where you have to do things like say the scout law, motto, oath, and slogan so you could run if you couldn't you had to wait a specific time. we ended up taking 4th. then we ate dinner and went to to do the finals in Battle Of The Tetons which I got to participate in. we took 4th but our side the east side won. We then went and did skits at Chief's Rock after that we went to bed.

On the last day we ate packed up and left but my dad took me and 3 other boys to Table Rock and Targhee Ski Resort and home.

From Mom:
Tanner left on Monday for Scout Camp and he and Ashlyn's birthday was on Friday.  We were all missing him so much by Friday that we decided to take a day trip to Treasure Mountain to take some birthday cupcakes to Tanner and his troop.  And of course it was a magical day for Ashlyn because she was the only girl in hundreds of boys her own age... okay, so she isn't particularly boy crazy and maybe it wasn't her favorite idea as to how to spend her day, but give her a couple of years and she will think I am the best mom ever for giving her gifts like that.

While we were at Scout Camp, Charlotte had a wiggly tooth that she was determined that she was going to get out.  It took lots of tugging and a good amount of blood, but she lost that thing and even kept a hold of it all the way until we got home.  She walked around camp looking like this:

Whitlee was sure her teeth were loose too and wanted us to wiggle them.

Ian and Bronson decided that scout camp looked like so much fun that they wanted to stay.  They got to sleep in a tent with Zac and join in with the boys for a night of fun and skits.  Ian can't wait until he is 12.

We had so much fun watching Tanner participate in his last days challenges.  It was so fun to see him in his absolute element.  That boy lives for the outdoors and it was hard for him to come home, but I am so glad that he did because we missed him SO much!
